Frequently Asked Questions

What does TAPause do?

It lets you shut down a home computer or put it to sleep from your phone — without walking over to the computer.

Does it work over the Internet?

The app does not use the Internet during operation. An Internet connection is required only to download the installer and activate the key. TAPause works only within your home Wi-Fi network — the phone and computer must be on the same network. This is a deliberate privacy choice: nothing leaves your home and nothing is transmitted outside.

Can someone else shut down my computer?

No. Only phones that have scanned the unique QR code shown by your computer are paired. Without that pairing, no one — even on the same network — can send commands.

Is this spyware or parental monitoring?

No. TAPause does not record screens, log activity, read messages, or track location. It does one thing: when you press the button on your phone, it shuts the paired computer down or puts it to sleep. That is the entire feature set.

What data does TAPause collect?

None. The site uses no cookies, no analytics, and does not register users. Purchase and license registration are handled entirely by Lemon Squeezy — TAPause does not receive or store payment details. See the privacy policy for details.

Which platforms are supported?

Computers: macOS (Apple Silicon) and Windows 10/11. Phones and tablets running iOS or Android. The phone app is available via a QR code or a link on the home page.

Which app editions are available?

Two editions are available — Standard and PRO.

What if "Keep asleep (or schedule)" is on and the computer gets woken up by accident?

When the computer wakes, it checks the state on your phone. If "Keep asleep (or schedule)" is set there, it automatically returns to sleep within 20 seconds in the Standard edition, and in the PRO edition after the time set in the phone app. This repeats until you cancel it using the sliders on your phone.

How do I unlock the PC if the phone app was deleted?

If "Keep asleep" or the sleep schedule is on, and you accidentally removed the paired PC in the phone app, deleted the phone app itself, or the PC lost connection with the phone for any reason (new Wi-Fi network, etc.) — and the PC keeps going back to sleep, don't worry. If the phone app was deleted, install it again. By default, the delay before sleep is 20s in the Standard edition; for PRO it is set with the delay slider (also 20s by default). If that time isn't enough to launch the installer and pair the devices or remove the agent, don't worry: after 10 consecutive sleeps the delay before sleeping increases to 2 minutes — so you have time to download the installer file, run it and pair the devices or remove the agent.
